Mat-Su Learn and Inspire, LLC: Growing Life-Long Learners
I’m Jessica Bertram, the founder of Mat-Su Learn and Inspire. I am so glad you’re here. My goal is to create a space where learning flourishes in a nurturing, small-group environment designed to help children thrive alongside their peers.
My Journey & Experience
Originally from Michigan, I earned my degree in Early Childhood Education from Grand Valley State University in 2015. My heart has always been in teaching, whether I was nannying, tutoring, or volunteering.
After moving to Alaska, I spent several rewarding years in the public school system, teaching 4th grade in Homer and serving as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District. These years gave me invaluable insight into how children learn and the importance of a strong educational foundation.
Why I Created Mat-Su Learn and Inspire
While I loved my students in the traditional classroom, I found myself longing for a setting that allowed for a more personal connection. I wanted to move away from "one-size-fits-all" instruction and create an environment where I could cater to each child’s individual needs while still fostering the social interaction and collaboration that makes learning fun.
This desire fueled the inception of Mat-Su Learn and Inspire. Here, I prioritize:
The Power of Small Groups: Children thrive when they feel seen, heard, and supported by both their teacher and their peers.
A Love for Learning: My mission is to transform "I have to" into "I want to" by making complex subjects, like the mechanics of writing or the wonders of science, engaging and accessible.
Community & Growth: We aren’t just a class; we are a small community where students build lasting friendships and the confidence to take risks in their learning.
My Commitment to Your Family
As a direct-bill vendor for many Alaska homeschool programs, I am committed to being a partner in your child's educational journey. I provide a supportive, enriching, and personalized setting where every child has the opportunity to grow and be inspired.
When I’m not in the classroom, you can usually find me enjoying the beautiful Mat-Su Valley and finding new ways to bring the wonder of our world into our next lesson.
I would love to help your student reach their next "aha!" moment. Feel free to reach out with any questions. I can’t wait to meet you!
